Job interviews, rebooking and resignation

As day of my flight (October 30th) was getting closer I decided to concentrate on searching of suitable companies around AB and BC, sending resumes and filling out Indeed.ca, LinkedIn and Monster.ca profiles. Last week I sent a dozen of resumes, some for electrical engineer jobs some for rope access jobs.

It resulted with a few declines and luckily with three interview requests. Two of them are for high rise windows cleaning and third is for telecommunications tower climbing. One in Calgary and other two in Vancouver. I hope they will be kind enough to let me do the first round of interviews via Skype. If not, than field trip to Vancouver it is.

To put things in a better perspective I have a masters degree since September 2014 and a year and a half experience as a electrical engineer. On the other hand I have 10+ years of experience on various jobs involving working with ropes and of course caving and mountain rescue experience. I have two types of resumes. They only differ in "career objective" part. One emphasizes my engineering experience and qualities (or the lack of :D ) while other highlights my experience with rope techniques.

Although I'm trying to not get carried away and to be as down to earth as possible, I'm really happy about those job interviews. I didn't expect any positive responses sending applications from abroad without Canadian phone number. I know it is just a first step and probably they call applicants for interviews all the time, but first step is better than no step at all :D

Because of the this new momentum I rebooked my flight for October 7th. That also meant that I'm going to resign earlier than firstly intended. Colleagues where a little bit surprised at first but after the initial shock they where extra supportive. Director offered me any kind of help if I need it. Next week I'm going back to the company and say final goodbye to them. It is going to be a tough one because it was a real blessing to work with such a nice people.

In this last two weeks in Croatia I'm going to finish up preparing, decide what should I bring, collect all the documents, print resumes, make few farewell dinners/drinking parties, watch South Park, play ARMA III and be a lazy ass.
Soon...

Recently I was asked many times am I afraid or nervous for making such a big step. Most probably anxiety is gonna kick in night or two before flight day but answer is always the same and it is "no". I'm eager and determined as I've never been before...

Blog

This is a blog about a journey of searching a better life (whatever the hell that means) or hit the floor in the process. First and foremost its purpose will be to capture the world through my own eyes and try to be as sincere as possible to myself.

In the meantime I hope it will help some people who find themselves in the similar situation to make more informed and rational decisions. Same as many blogs and forum posts helped me to get my courage up and move from the life of certainty.
